Jason Rohrer's Next Game: Inside a Star-filled Sky

A cryptic website has appeared for Jason Rohrer's next project, called Inside a Star-filled Sky. A quote by Justice Antonin Scalia appears, and if you click on 'click', then you're presented with what looks like a series of inkblot tests.

Scroll all the way to the bottom, and you'll find a zip file you can download. Search inside there, and you'll find a series of zip files that spell out 'atablemadeofgreenstone'. Finally, you'll find a link to a few images which are most likely screenshots from the upcoming game.

So... what's it all about then? The game is apparently 'coming soon' for Windows, Mac, and Linux, and it will be on a pay-what-you-want basis. We'll keep you informed on any other information we discover.

Browser Game Pick: Gravitee Wars (FunkyPear)

Gravitee Wars is what happens when you put Worms in space. Each team has a group of spacemen positioned on random planets, and must fire bazookas at each other until all the other teams are either floating in space or blown to bits.

The gravity of each planet plays havoc with the rockets' flight directions, and longer shots will earn you more points to spend on extra men for your team and upgrades. Unfortunately there is no multiplayer, but you've got plenty of rewards and awards to unlock.

Gravitee Wars is available to play over at Armor Games.

Trailer: Aban Hawkins & the 1000 Spikes (8bits fanatics)

This trailer is pretty much hot off the press - 8bits fanatics is close to releasing their second Xbox Live Indie Game title called "Aban Hawkins & the 1000 Spikes", and if you've played Challenge from Kiyoshi before (from the same developer) you'd notice the similiarities between the two right away.

Billed as a hardcore 2D platformer, the game has you collecting idols from an ancient tomb while trying to figure out the safest path around deadly traps and bloodied spikes that'll impale our explorer Aban on contact. There's no official page for the game yet, but the trailer description does say that it'll come out sometime this month and will cost just one buck (80 MS Points).

IndieGames.com Podcast #12: Chevy Ray Johnston

indiegames.PNGApologises for the late arrival of this week's podcast - we ended up recording it a little later in the week than we normally do. Late does not equal lame, however, as we have the energetic Chevy Ray Johnston on talking to us this week.

Mr. Johnston discussed with us his past work such as Skullpogo, and talked about the new game he is working on with Adam Saltsman. We then talk Flashpunk and its future, the Flash Game Dojo, Indie Kombat, Ludum Dare and, of course, his hat - although, despite his fedora, we also learn that Chevy Ray has not seen a single Indiana Jones film, and is therefore completely mental.

Nidhogg Footage from PC Gamer

We may still be waiting for Nidhogg, but watching the game in action is entertaining enough for now. The guys at PC Gamer have posted up footage of them playing through a quick match of the mental fencing game - unfortunately there's still no release date.

Browser Game Pick: Haxball (Basro)

Haxball is a multiplayer-only game that plays a bit like five-a-side football or air hockey. Players are never restricted to a certain position in a match, so you can take on the role of a goalkeeper, outfield player, or switch between the two whenever the need calls for it.

You control your avatar using the cursor keys, and pressing the X key kicks the ball away from you. Though it might not be noticeable at first, players also move faster across the field when they're not actively kicking at thin air.

Only browsers with Flash Player versions of 10 or above will be able to run Haxball. It should also be pointed that the game is still in beta, but the developer can usually be found hanging around in the chat room and would more than welcome any feedback or suggestions that he could get.

Humble Indie Bundle 2 is Here

The first Humble Indie Bundle was a bit good, right? Well there have been hints recently that a second one will be coming, and now the above image has appeared on the HIB twitter feed. Finally, the Escapist appear to have the full line-up.

Minecraft Mod Watch: Scribblecraft

There are already plenty of Minecraft user mods available, but with the upcoming beta release and promise to better support mods for the game, I thought I'd go searching for some of the better ones.

Scribblecraft is a hand-drawn texture pack for Minecraft by Kristopher Bel, with each block drawn onto squared paper and presented in a colourful way. What's great about it is that from a distance, the Minecraft world looks relatively similar to normal, yet when you walk up close to a block, the texture suddenly become very obvious. Hitting blocks even causes scribble cracks to appear. Very cool stuff indeed.

You can download the Scribblecraft mod over on Minecraft Forum, although you'll need the HD Texture Fix first! Note also that the mod only works on the paid, downloadable version, and not the browser version.

iPhone Game Pick: Mind Wall (Seth Robinson)

Originally released as a Ludum Dare competition entry for Windows and Mac, Mind Wall is a 3D puzzler in which you have to create holes of the correct sizes on walls for the yellow blocks to pass through. The advancing yellow block cannot be turned or rotated to fit into the opening, and players are only allowed to remove a small square piece from every wall.

Because of the simplicity of the concept, every puzzle can be solved with just a single tap, provided that you know the right place to remove a tile. Playing through the tutorial will teach you about the basic shapes in Mind Wall, and the Gauntlet mode is automatically unlocked for you once you've beaten the first ten stages that the game has to offer.

Mind Wall is available on nearly all popular desktop and mobile platforms, although you might find the PC and Mac versions slightly dated (which is the original Ludum Dare build that doesn't include the Gauntlet mode and online leaderboards). The iPhone release is available to purchase from the App Store for only $0.99.

Browser Game Pick: Lame Castle (Be-Rad Entertainment)

Lame Castle is a side-scrolling runner about kicking chickens, jumping over rocks and popping bouncy castles. Along the way there are plenty of opportunities to grab bonus points.

It starts off a little slow, but once the chicken-kicking, treasure-smashing and barn-running are all in full flow, it's pretty satisfying stuff. The speed really picks up too, so you'll need to have quick reactions. Levels are usually fairly short, which can be a little irritating as the game is best at full speed - however, there are also endless challenges you can play through, in which there is no end.

There's actually a funny story behind this one - programmer Bradley Johnson, who used to work for Crystal Dynamics, watched a Sony ad that laid into the iPhone, with a game called Lame Castle playing on the screen. Bradley thought hey, why not make that iPhone game?
