Robot Wants Kitty is Free for Today Only

Here's a fantastic freebie that you should grab if you own an iOS device capable of running the game. Raptisoft's cutesy 2D platformer Robot Wants Kitty is available as a free download from the App Store for today only, and though you can find the same game online at all major Flash game portals the iPhone version features much-improved graphics and additional levels not found in the original.

In Robot Wants Kitty you play as the titular robot who has to grab said kitty hiding somewhere in the same level, but to get to the prize you'd have to collect a couple of new abilities and power-ups first. Without them, many areas and platforms will be unreachable to our mechanical friend.

You can get the iOS version of Robot Wants Kitty right here, or play the Flash release of the same game (with slightly outdated graphics) over here.

Demo: The Network (Aquafox Studio)

"Unique total immersion gameplay", "Experimental storytelling", "Test your mind and your reflexes"... these are the qualities that The Network promises. They are rather high expectations for what is quite a simple arena shooter, and it certainly doesn't live up to the blurb, but it's an entertaining experience none-the-less.

You are linking into The Network, connecting to nodes and downloading data. Packets need to be collected and fired into the nodes, while security nodes give chase. As you complete your mission, you can carry more nodes, but more security will also be on your tail. The gameplay can become pretty frantic, especially in the survival levels, but unfortunately it does become a bit too repetitive after a while.

Still worth downloading the demo to see what you think, and maybe even purchasing the full game is you enjoy it enough - it's very cheap. Grab the demo from Desura or Impulse.

"I am getting closer to my Gameplay Complete milestone. The bulk of the game design is now more-or-less there, in the sense that you can go and solve all the puzzles and they are basically the body of puzzles that will be in the final game."

"Taking inspiration from a lot of sources, you could be forgiven for thinking that Terraria looks like a 2D Minecraft clone at first, but even from the limited information and gameplay footage so far, it goes a lot deeper than that."

Trailer: Vikings On Trampolines (D-Pad Studio)

Vikings On Trampolines is an upcoming multiplayer battler about bouncing vikings around and making sure not to go splat on the floor. Two players boing around the arena and aim to land on the supplied trampolines so as not to die, while also trying to knock each other out.

It looks very silly indeed, which I fully approve of. There are power-ups that will give players the advantage over their opponent, and the first person to knock the other out five times is victorious. There's no word on when we'll be seeing it released, but in the meantime you can check out the official VoT site (Cheers again, Marcus!)

On a related note, D-Pad Studio are the guys behind Owlboy, a stylish vertical scrolling platformer that still hasn't seen the light of day. I did a quick scan of the entire world with my godly hand (aka I Googled it) and turned up this recent interview over at Achievement Locked, in which the developers says: "It's currently in the finishing phase... We're expecting to use no less than 1-2 months on finishing the game." Sounds like we'll finally get to play it!

Browser Game Pick: Crazy Over Goo (Kristian Macanga and Banov)

Greg "Banov" Lobanov has released a new Flash version of his freeware game Crazy Over Goo with help from his partner in crime Kristian Macanga. The game sees you flinging a ball of goo around a set of short levels, aiming to reach the flag on each one in as few shots as possible.

Those who played the original will be happy to hear that this new version comes with updated visuals and loads more levels to play through - it's pretty much a whole new game. There's also a level editor, and customization options for dressing your goo up.

Crazy Over Goo can be played over at Newgrounds.

Kickstarter Projects: Tweet Land

Although Tweet Land has reached its goal with a week to spare, I can't help but want to direct your attention over at this awesome little project over at Kickstarter. What is it about? In a nutshell, Tweet Land is twittering made real and by real, I mean a meteor landing on the virtual road in the communal game just because someone mentioned it in passing.

Upon release, the Tweet Land universe will feature two video games: Route 140 and LoveCity, both of which will be susceptible to the whims and the fancies of the unsuspecting Twitter public and also the players involved. I'm not quite sure how exactly trending will affect the environment but I'm eager to find out. It's one thing to add a social networking component to a game. It's another thing entirely to trigger a zombie infestation because someone is commenting on their Monday blues. According to the Kickstarter page, it looks like the developers are planning to release Tweet Land for the iPhone and the web browser.

Curiosity piqued? Unconvinced? Either way, I definitely suggest poking your head over at their Kickstarter page. If you have an extra buck or so, this is a pretty worthwhile place to park it. 

Trailer: Dead Cyborg (Endre Baráth)

I've always had a soft spot for anything that hints remotely of a dystopian future, one filled with rust and robots. However, Dead Cyborg has me at a bit of a loss. It doesn't have anything to do with the story, mind you - the creator, Endre Baráth, has yet to reveal the details of that, after all. What has me so tweaked is the delivery of the game. It seems that Dead Cyborg is going to be a text adventure except done like a first-person shooter. Yeah, let's just let that sink in for a while. 

Sadly, however, it's going to be a while before we get to see the results of this unusual compilation of genres. According to the website, Dead Cyborg is about forty percent away from the completion of its first chapter. Until then, those interested in keeping track of the game might want to bookmark the official site here.

Browser Game Pick: ColorRoom (Polygon Gmen)

ColorRoom is the latest release from the guys behind the Transmover series. Looking into a Nintendo DS, you can rotate the view to see around the room, and hunt down seven coloured stars.

The stars can be found by solving puzzles, using items in the correct places, and deciphering clues. You may also need to use the DS buttons to solve certain puzzles. Once you zoom in on an area, it will become locked in place until you click the back button. The game feels a little like one of those 'Escape the Room' style games, although the controls can feel a little jarring at times.

Browser Game Pick: This is a Work of Fiction (Eli Piilonen)

This is a Work of Fiction is a new puzzle game from the developer behind The Company of Myself and Spewer. Over a series of challenges, you're given the bare minimum instructions, and must figure out how to proceed on your own.

Even starting the game is a challenge! There are five game types in total, and once you've worked out how they must each be tackled, it's then a case of putting your knowledge to better use in the harder puzzles. Each puzzle you complete unlocks an extra page in a rather odd story - in fact, the whole thing is rather creepy, with a chilling soundtrack from David Carney and some strange visual effects.

Demo: Mechanic Infantry (Slak Games)

Mechanic Infantry is an upcoming fast-paced platformer, with nimble acrobatics and quick reactions necessary to save all your friends and reach the exit. Due for a release next month, the game has a five level demo available to download now.

Each level is a bite-sized rush to the finish (at least in the demo anyway), as a nasty robot chases you, and obstacles lurk at every corner. It looks pretty great, although there are some odd missing animations here and there that hopefully will be fixed for the final release. I'm also hoping that the final game will have a bit of variety in level design - the five demo levels are nice enough, but I'm not sure if I'd want to play a whole game comprised of these same ideas.

We're looking at an early May release, with 50 levels in total, and high score boards. Download the Windows demo at the Slak Games site.
