Warning: Contains strong language and graphic scenes.

Emily Enough: Imprisoned is a short but strange adventure game by Logan Worsley, with a dark setting and a disturbing story line unlike anything seen in other AGS releases. You assume the role of a child named Emily Enough, sentenced to live in an asylum until the age of twenty-one. The objective is to figure out an escape plan with a little help from the other occupants.

No sequel is planned even though the title seems to imply otherwise. The creator is currently working on another project.

Urban Uprising: Dark New World is considered to be a sequel to DHC's previous release with the same title. Sporting an upgrade system similar to Konami's Gradius series, the vertical shooter can be difficult to play without a strategy or two.

Fortunately, shooter veterans should find no problems adapting to the shift of perspective. Activating the shield is usually the first priority. It's also useful to have another protective barrier ready at hand even when one is already in place, since bosses could take some time to defeat.

Press the Z key to shoot, tap the X key to enable the power-up of your choice and hold the C key to lock the options' shot direction. One of the best offerings from this particular company.

A work in progress by Yuriy O'Donnell, there is still plenty of development to be done on HGEWars although it's been around longer than any of the other Geometry Wars remakes. The ini file requires minor editing for the gamepad to work.

Weapon upgrade is automatic. Quite faithful to the original but it may be months before the final version is released.

GhostHouse is an old tech demo by Oliver Pearl, creator of MinuteMatch and Bonbon Quest among others. Many shades of sepia were used although the game has poor collision and plain textures. This 2MB FPS only features one weapon and presents no configuration menu.

Still, it's amusing to see past projects from the current crop of independent developers long before achieving fame and success.

The Shivah is another brilliant piece of work by Dave Gilbert, creator of both Bestowers of Eternity and Two of a Kind. A few things are done differently in this murder mystery, for example there are no puzzles requiring the use of your inventory and practically no items to collect.

Story progression is usually achieved by extracting clues from conversations with other characters. A rabbi had received a large sum of money from a former member of his congregation, and being extremely suspicious the man decides to investigate the origins of his good fortune. Great stuff, even the final confrontation is a showcase of excellence in design.

Kamui is one of the best 2D shmup available for the PC, featuring excellent sprite designs and an unparalleled use of zoom effect to create a sense of depth.

Enemies which are not on the same level as your ship can be shot at by using the X key. Hold it for a moment, then release to zap them with lightning. Press the Z and X key at the same time to activate your special attack.

The trial version can be downloaded by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page. Highly recommended.

Narcissu is an excellent visual novel written by Tomo Kataoka, then translated by both insani and Haeleth. The narrative begins with a bleak outlook but things do improve as the story progresses. Any attempt at describing this piece would be spoiling the experience, unfortunately. Suffice to say that anyone who enjoys a good read or a touching movie should get this right away.

It's not cool to shoot people. That said, Texas - The Official Gunslinger Congress is an alright shooting gallery simulator with plenty of stuff to aim at. Pack of smokes can be collected for a nice effect, although nothing else happens. This is to discourage others from picking up the habit.

The objective of the game is to get the highest score possible in two minutes. Pressing the escape key while playing will cause an exit sign to appear, and the vulture which appear on the main menu screen can also be taken down.

Virtual by Vector Games is a shooter with a mix of gameplay elements from Japanese shmups, Every Extend and Tron. Hard to imagine, but pretty fun nonetheless. When pressing the left control key, your ship will warp and create a small circle. Any round objects with the same color caught in it will basically go offline and disappear.

Enemies leave trails when traveling, and your ship will be terminated if it crosses these lines with another color. Press the left shift key to change your ship's color. Lives are replaced with logins, which can be acquired by using the same warp action on square objects.

Mutant Storm is an arena shooter developed by PomPom Games, in which you control a ship equipped with directional firing much like Geometry Wars. Instead of vector shapes, most of the objects in the game are represented in 3D.

It's quite unfortunate that your progress is only saved every ten levels, leaving most users replaying the same stages just to arrive at a save point.

Dice Wars is a pretty addictive Flash effort by GameDesign, featuring a dice roll attack system much like the one employed by the board game Risk. The number of opponents controlled by the computer can be selected from the main menu. Dices are used to represented each nation's soldiers on the randomly generated map.

Your army will always wear the color purple, and initiating an attack only requires two mouse clicks. Results are calculated based on your dice throws. If the attacker's total is greater than the defender's, then all but one of the dices are moved into the new territory. If the defending troops prevail, then the attacker will lose every soldier save one.

Unlike Hasbro's classic, troop movements are limited to invasions. Each area can only hold up to eight dices and no more. Army distribution is random, and total new troops awarded at the end of each turn is equal to the largest number of adjoining countries that you currently hold in your grasp.
