: Chronos - A Tapestry in Time

Chronos - A Tapestry in Time is a remake that retains all the gameplay from the original, but with a shiny new coat of paint. Essentially a horizontal shooter, there are few power-ups to be found anywhere and they usually don't last long. The ship's movement is a little slow, and moving backwards actually means hovering at the same spot which can be slightly misleading.

As it stands, the configuration menu requires more flexibility. With a bit of tweaking, this would have been a perfect homage. The difficulty setting needs to be adjusted as the current level does not allow shots to be fired.

How should I say it... Tim, Chronos is an *horizontal* shooter. ^^;

Nice game, but a bit too "rough" confronted even with some contemporary games, especially with a Nemesis remake in the same contest, but even Zynaps, though it needed better programming, has a more interesting gameplay. I found the enemies frequently crashing on obstacles a bit ridicolous.

Its a horizontal shooter *grin*.

As to difficulty, made a slight fubar and uploaded with lowest as default. Difficulty 4 is the "normal" game, and difficulty 5 and 6 are much faster & harder. All of which is detailed in the documentation.

As to the config menu / tweaking - feel free to drop me a PM on the Retro Remakes forum, happy to hear what you have to suggest.

Thanks for the review though - tbh about what I expected, although to date I still think its the best game Ive done so far, personally speaking

Thanks again for the correction! I keep making these mistakes... :(

And thanks for sharing your thoughts on these games. A second opinion is dear to me. :)

Giving Chronos two points below Nemesis feels kinda right, but if you think otherwise then I'd like to know as well!

Nope, thats your opinion and Im happy with that - I think it reflects overall that the original Nemesis is better than the original Chronos, so Id expect a good remake of Nemesis to score slightly better tbh.

What Im really interested in is "proper" feedback though - i.e. the config menu that you alluded to in your post.

Overall though, I think that was a fair review. The original wasnt an outstanding game (nor was it a particularly fast shooter either) but I hope Ive improved on a number of areas over the original (which didnt have powerups, for example). Its a game I loved as a kid though, hence it being my choice for the compo.
