Stencyl Announcement
Stencyl (Java-based) is a new game development tool which allows games to be made with very little effort spent on programming. As described by the team:
Stencyl is a universal platform for tile-based game creation with an emphasis on user-friendliness and adaptability to many different genres. In other words, it's a tool that lets you create practically any standard kind of 2D game in existence.
StencylWorks, the game builder for Stencyl, is the tool that you'll be using to create games. It will be unveiled later this year.
3D games are not supported, but all creations made using this open source freeware development tool will run on Mac and Linux as well. I'm skeptical, but a lot of promises were made and if the developers keep their word then it could possibly rival Mark Overmar's popular Game Maker.

Comments
They go such a long way to make this cool tool and then they ruin it by making it Java-based. Oh well.

Seems good, let's hope they make it to release without being SMACKED DOWN by Nintendo for stealing all their games.

I'm excited about the fact that this is open-source and linux-compatible, because as far as I know then there is no equivalent tool currently available for linux. But without a chance to actually use it or play any of the games I can't say whether or not it really has the chance to rival Gamemaker...

Thanks for the feedback. It's a bit refreshing to see positive comments after somebody posted/spammed under the project's name and got us in some hot water over that.If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask them here.- Jon
