« IndieGames.com's Best Freeware Adventure Games 2007 | Main | Interview: GameTunnel Founder Russell Carroll »

Caution: strong language.

Barkley Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden is the full version of the earlier Chapter 1 release seen last year, which tells the tale of the outcast basketball player named Charles Barkley and his quest to clear his name of a crime he did not commit.

The game is standard RPG fare but features an outlandish apocalyptic setting with the basketball sport and matches outlawed, while the players either condemned, executed or sentenced to a life of anonymity.

It will probably take around five hours to complete the entire adventure.

Hah, I remember this trailer.

I adore this trailer actually, it's probably the best trailer for an indie game I've ever seen. My only problem with it is that it uses ripped graphics, which kind of distracts from the game because you're constantly reminded of the games it comes from.

pure genius!

Anybody know what song that is in the trailer? I love it.

@Paul: I looked up the lyrics. It seems the song is called Space Jam and it's by Quad City DJ's.

I've been waiting for a finished version for so, so long.

I can die happy now.

As much as I want to try this game out, it apparently takes up about 200k in memory usage on the main menu so I'll pass in the mean time.

200k? wow

Thanks for the info about the song Julius!

200 KB of memory? That doesn't sound like much. Or do you mean 200 MB?

Sorry about that, 200MB stated from task manager. I do have a fairly old laptop (on its 4th year) however, but it's able to run most indy games (Most recent game I can think of is Audiosurf and Zombie Shooter). Specs are 1.5GHz Pentium M (laptop), 64MB Radeon 9200, 512MB RAM, XP Pro.

I saw my HDD temperature jump 2 degrees Celsius since I opened the game (long load up, changed to window mode so it had to reload up again). Then again it is near the end of its life, but still.

I wander why there are so few Rpg Maker games with original graphics. However, this one's a classic.

I'm in the same boat as anonymous. My gaming computer runs the game fine, but this thing lags on a laptop that can handle audiosurf.

@Paul & Julius

Actually, the song is two songs mixed together. Julius was right that part of the song (the lyrics) are from Space Jam.

The music part of it is actually chip music composed by "Quazar" back in 1996, entitled "Funky Stars." You can find the song here, if you like:

Why is there an apostrophe in "Tales of Game's"?

Thanks Zmaniac! That's a pretty original idea they had there to mix the two. But it also means that to hear the mix I'll just have to watch the YouTube video, unless I can find a way to combine the two -- maybe Audacity would work.

a lot of you guys seem to be missing the point of this game. it is retarded, awesome internet humour. there is an apostrophe because it is making fun of engrish.

the combat system is a very important aspect as well, because no random encounters and interactivity make for a system that is fun as opposed to a cludgy, boring mess like most console styled rpgs.

You can get the full mp3 of the song in the trailer here:
