Hmm, time to put my new skill of Allegro to work.

They need to do something about their terms and conditions. Clause 19 seems to inadvertently forbid the use of libraries (through the broad and kind of unclear definition of what 'the Game' means) and there's no way I'm granting an indemnity to them just so I can enter their competition. And what does 'All relevant instructions on the Promoter’s website form part of these Terms and Conditions.' mean? I'm sure they're not trying to be dodgy but they could do without some of the lawyer-speak.
Also, 'Colour' isn't exactly an inspiring theme. I predict a high proportion of match-3 puzzle games and tripolar ikaruga clones. Maybe a few MtG-style magic systems as well.

Also, just noticed that entries must 'meet any legal or classification requirements and not breach any law', and you indemnify Eegra if they don't.
Guys, classification is not cheap. For some types of games it's over $2,000 and it's going to be at least $1,000 unless you can find a qualified assessor. Unclassified games made available in Australia can be called in for mandatory classification, and then the fee becomes payable. I'm not aware of this happening for free games at the moment, but since Eegra is published from Sydney and seems to be run commercially (well, it accepts advertising) there is a risk it could happen at any time.
This competition sounds like a great idea, and the prizes are good, but Australia's censorship system is too broken to put conditions like that in the T&C. Sorry.

Colour ? Uninspiring ? Only for the unimaginative.

@laharl
I wouldn't mind a clarification on the classification fee? So if hypothetically I win the grand prize, it may well be equal to a whopping gross of $0. woohoo!
(thanks for the heads up btw)

Y'know we're good people and we're just trying to bring some 'colour' and fun into the world, excite everyone to get creative, reward their efforts and maybe uncover the next great indie game in the process.
Our T & Cs are standard T & Cs. Sure they're long and in 'lawyer-speak' but that's the 'law' and T & Cs for you.
Australian Law requires classification application IF the game in question is being sold or hired or demonstrated. We're not selling, we're not hiring and we're not demonstrating. So relax!
We don't seek to own your intellectual property in the game you create - and we don't want to own your copyright either.
When the Shindig is all over you can take your game and YOU can sell it, hire it or demonstrate it.
We just want to give you a forum for your talent and some exposure so YOU can take things to the next level.
Likewise we want to inform anyone who might not be aware that it's not cool to infringe on anyone else's copyright to make your game and it's necessary for the T & Cs to state that fact.
Standard stuff ... but eegra would be negligent if it did not point that out.
'All relevant instructions on the website ...' again ... we have to tell you... read the 'Guidelines for Entry' ... they are the other relevant instructions for entering the Shindig.
As for the theme of 'colour' - well.. we liked it.
We didn't call this our 1st Annual Game Makin Shindig for nothing ... we hope there's a 2nd and 3rd and ...we hope you'll join us!

I found this huge list of terms and agreements very scary. I wonder what they will use the finished games. Anyway i'm out due to this..
