Voxelstein 3D is a remake based loosely on ID's FPS classic, created by Hans Krieg using Ken Silverman's Voxlap engine. The game consists of only one short level, in which players must find a way out of the mansion they are trapped in using any means necessary. This may involve the conventional way of opening doors, or chipping away at walls or obstacles blocking your path to reveal an exit.

A text configuration file found inside the game folder can be edited for a number of amusing results. (source: MisterX)

Awesome... I dug my way through rooms where the doors wouldn't open, I'm not sure if I was supposed to though... ;D

Whoa that's mega impressive. Always wondered what that rendering technique was called. Got a DS racing game and some mad old PC game that uses a similar technique to this, nothing was ever curved but it could render loads at once.

^ Voxels in a DS game? You sure it doesn't just look like that because of the lack of texture filtering?

Voxel techniqe was used befor e the first voodoo or d3d cards. Novalogic used it for some games and outcast is an example. it is totally cpu based, so I dont think a handheld has enough cpu power.

btw. how do i open the door at the start?

Press the E button. Or, if you're hardcore, keep chipping away at it with your knife for half an hour.

Yeah, I chipped away at it and evenutally go through. Scary atmosphere.

A game made with Voxlap?!

Awesome, been waiting years for something like this.

This game surely use voxels, but in a different way compared with the past technique. It needs DirectX9 libraries to work.
I think the screen is made up of many cubes put side by side.
Anyway an interesting way to represent 3D sceneries.
I like also the possibity to interact with the world around you, chopping it. :)
I got 35fps with an Athlon64 3700+ at 2200Mhz and over 40fps @2750Mhz.

I blew away the chain and made a chandelier fall!!!

It wasn't very impressive though.

Way fun game, good example of things to come, hopefully. I like the voxels, it seems like you can do some things with them that are harder to do with polygons.
