Flash Game Pick: Dino Run (Pixeljam Games)
Review by bigbossSNK
Dino Run (Pixeljam mirror) - The pyroclastic wall of doom is approaching. Nothing survives it. The premise is clear, you either run ahead of it, or you die. No one said survival was going to be easy in this dino-eat-dino world.
Pixeljam's latest game lets you decide the fate of a dino, and has the typical* features of a free indie game: old school pixel art, multiple areas to explore, achievements to unlock, upgrades and secrets to obsess over.
And to prove these dinos live in packs, the developers have included an online multiplayer mode that'll have you competing against other dinos across the Pangea. (Smack talking optional)
*By typical, I mean extraordinary

This is the best game Pixeljam games has released so far, and one of my favorite indies of all time. Enjoy it.
I did the beta test for this game, and it's the most fun I've ever had on a beta test of any kind. Sure to be a classic.

I can't believe I'm the only one who thinks this game is simply terrible.
95% of the time all I did was hold right. Every once and a while I jumped or ducked but most of the time I did nothing. How does anyone find it fun?

Basically it's Sonic 2.

Does that screenshot say "+nan"?

for some reason it wont work for me, it loads up, plays the animation for the developer logos, and then goes to a blank blue screen and does nothing.

Does that screenshot say "+nan"?
It certainly does. And I bet good money that the score for that game will total NaN as well! ;-)

Great game - style, visuals, music, theme - all works very well. My favourite of all Pixeljam games and yes, gameplay reminds of Sonic which is a good thing anyway.
IF YOU HAVE BLANK SCREEN (and game refuses to load further) - I had this problem in IE 7, then downloaded Opera 9, installed latest Flash and it worked.

(siren sounds) advertisement alert! Both Opera and Fire Fox fixes this problem. Anyways the game is still quite good, and yes maybe the creator could have added more variety to the terrain to make it "less boring". Like having to go any other direction besides forward.

Dakaggo, welcome to games.

The setting and graphics were very well done. I liked that when you would stand still, the apocalypse would get closer. The mood was oh so delicious.
The gameplay itself is stale. I was really getting sick of playing near the later levels. Then, the game just decided to end. I was running and, like hitting a wall, everything stopped. How will being in a cave help him survive?
I tried the online mode for 15 minutes. I joined 5 different games none of which started. I understand that can't possibly be the extent of the online play, but it sure was frustrating.

Great game! Graphic evok old 8-bits :-)

There was great improvements in the gameplay in this months of beta testing.
For me multiplayer mode was surprisingly fun (this game mode appeared only in the latest versions).
Retro graphics are very well done and animations are ok.
I noticed that there are some problems with multiplayer races, that often can't start. I hope they will correct this bug soon.

fun game, but is it meant to be so ridiculously hard to amass any serious amounts of DNA!? there's hardly even any guidance as to what the best ways to do this are. the gameplay ought to be a little more rewarding.. most people would rather build their stats for a fast, strong dino than buy new time trials that don't offer much in the way of DNA points.

Kloi- I'm on a Mac too and it works with Safari. Running 10.5.2.

superdigg : find the hidden super eggs for DNA points.. also passing milestones helps. we designed it for longevity (for a browser game) so it takes a while to build up your dino.

At first when playing the game it felt too slow, but I think that was version 1.03, which is what I found at the xgenstudios site. The game at Pixel Jam's site, 1.04, felt a lot faster (and that's considering going from a dino with 4 accel and 3 speed back to nothing), and so the game became a lot more fun.

We just made a major update to the multiplayer version. hopefulyl it's much less buggy now.
Mehuyael: the speed difference is probably because the xgen version sometimes puts a heavy flash-based ad next to the game. hopefully one day flash gaming can evolve beyond winning 2 free ipods.

I like a lot this game, and yes, usually you must press "forward" all the time but stil funny.
