Maximum Racer is a simple, yet surprisingly fun little racing game which actually convinced me to give it a few tries.

Controls are: use the arrow keys to steer your ship, and the space key to accelerate. I still haven't managed to clear the first checkpoint, so you'll need to really ride the edge of the envelope to do well with this game.

I get an error. Something about Internet Explorer 4.0. Do I really have to install IE4 to run this?

Got the same error...

Me too...

You shouldn't, it ran out of the box on my PC, and I'm running XP SP3 with IE7.

If somebody could post the actual error I might be able to figure out what is going on, as I can't duplicate the problem on my box.

I doubt this will help, but:

Bugger, I should have thought that it would show up as gibberish. You're right, cactus, it doesn't help much :(.

Sorry guys, I hope it works for some people at least.

it works for me.
its hard as hell though...

also, is there any way to un-invert the y axis?

No, I'm afraid there isn't anything in the readme file about any settings.

I was able to play by looking for "d3drm.dll" in google and copying it in the app's folder.

Vista told me to do that after the giberish dialog ;)

update : Turns out to be a rather boring/buggy game

Bugginess is probably due to mixing d3drm.dll into the folder manually :P. That dll might not be in Vista because it's not compatible with Vista.

No, the buginess is due to shoddy coding. Stupid controls, stupider collision detection, no defined goal, no score table.

The game looks like a 3D Flash proof of concept. As a standalone app, it's very basic and it's lack of depth makes feel like you are playing a game intended to be a screen saver.

And an "incompatible" dll (which I find funny that you mention, seeing as I was able to run the game where most couldn't) doesn't explain why the game is boring

I don't think I implied that the dll had anything to do with the game being boring or not. I had no reason to doubt you found the game boring. It's only tagged "Freeware Game" instead of "Freeware Game Pick" and described as "simple" for a reason.
