Kaiten Patissier is the latest game from D.K., several months in the making, and which I highly recommend. It uses the same "collect-them-all" mechanic as Good Luck Natsuki, but is built entirely around the concept of rotating the levels to re-adjust the locations of platforms, boxes, walls, floors, and ceilings (Kaiten is Japanese for "rotate"). After collecting all but the last item in each level, a bonus item will appear somewhere in the level, so be sure to keep an eye out for the bonus items if you want to get 100% completion.

As a note, I contributed several of the levels in the game, so you'd better download it and check it out!

The zip file contains versions for Windows, Debian Linux (should work okay on other distributions as well), and the GP2X.

Just a note, this is based on a Japanese PS-One game called "Kokoro Postnin"(heh, same initials, "K.P.")

Neat, I hadn't known that (although the boxart title is "Korokoro Postnin", there's an extra syllable in there). Good Luck Natsuki was also based on a relatively obscure title. I really should have asked him what the inspiration for this game was before, I could have picked it up when I was over there last month.

Thanks for the tip :)!

Looks like Camel Try

Just gave this a spin... The rotating blocks are killing any fun I might have had in this game.

According to D.K., he actually didn't know Korokoro Postnin existed until he checked the comments here, which surprised the crap out of me, because as you say, they really are similar, right down to the initials.

This so needs a homebrew PSP port! Big ups.

Volunteering? It's under a very permissive license, so long as you let him know what you do with it you can port it to pretty much anything you like :).

oranda: Release of the port is nearly done :)

could you please let D.K. know? The PSP port is free as well as comes with the source. I quickly tried to find a contact possibility at D.K.'s website but with no success :/

Yes, I will :)! I'm sure he'll be really excited about it. He's really stressing trying to get a larger international audience for his games, and knowing that somebody took the time to port his games overseas will really make his day, I think.

If you want to send him a message directly, you can use the link labelled "メッセージを送る" up in the upper left corner of the screen. He speaks almost no English though, so I'll send him the message and let you know what he says :).

Thanks for doing this. Yeah it's no problem to port some quality games over, loved it from the first view at the screenshots! Will have a look at his other games too, as I don't own a GP2X it will be a bit interesting to port without trying :)

I managed to get gold on all courses except for 5-49 where I can't seem to find the 7 rotations solution at all. No matter which approach I take I always use 8 rotations.

MK2k:
D.K. had this to say in his mixi journal (which is kinda like a Japanese facebook):

"MK2k-san has ported my game to the PSP. Even if I only use it for this, that is reason enough for me to buy a PSP! Thank you so much!"

ABA (Kenta Cho), Omega, Kenmo, you guys have had your games ported so many times, loved by people around the world, and I've wanted that too, and now it look likes my time has finally come! I'm so happy. I never thought this day would actually come.

And SDL rocks."

So yeah, you really made his day :)!

oranda: that sounds nice, give him a big shout from me!
And by the way, it's not over with Kaiten Patissier alone, stay tuned :)

You mean you're porting MORE of his games??

Hmm, not sure if previous comment had the right tone. If you are planning to port more, I think that's awesome, frankly :). Indie game devs helping each other out like this is what it's all about!

Yeah, found a really great game at the Alpha Secret Base site :) The tone of the comment was okay hehe.

Okay, I managed to find that 7 rotations solution to 5-49, that was a pretty clever one.

In any case, I tried optimizing my strategies on all levels and that's as far as I got total so far:

Time 7:54.26
Rotations 215

Anybody get better results yet?

I'm proud to announce the PSP port of the Alpha Secret Base production called "Gannatsu Portable".

cheers!

MK2k:
This is excellent. Of the two, I definitely think that Ganbare Natsuki-san is the better game. Props, man!

Uhm, is it called Gannatsu Portable or Ganbare Natrsuki?!
This puzzles me a bit right now hehe

Both. The Japanese habitually combine/shorten terms for things, especially when they have some sort of "affection" for the thing in question.

The original title of the game is "Ganbare Natsuki-san". However, D.K. often shortens it to simply "Gannatsu".

The PSP port rocks!, the only complaint is that i would like it to scale to the PSP's screen height.

It's just R1, so when I've found a good way with the scaling, I'll release R2.

Seems D.K. has posted something new on his blog. I'd really like to know what is written there :)

I went back and shaved off rotations on all maps where I could think of something new. I also started to smooth out some of my previous records. These are my totals now:

Time: 7:47:37
Rotations: 197

MK2k:
Do you have an e-mail address or AIM/MSN handle I could send the translation to you with? If you don't want to send info in public you can use the contact form on my site.

MSN would be preferred, honestly, I'd like to pick your brain sometime :).

An excelent game. I 've became a fan.

This game is awesome! :) But an English translation would really make it complete!

Good idea! I'll talk to D.K. about that, maybe he'll let me translate it.
