We've done GameTap today, so it's only fair to balance it out by mentioning the release of Eternity's Child on Steam. The game can be purchased for less than USD $5. (trailer, in the press, soundtrack, Wikipedia entry)

Yet another Steam exclusive with no demo. Why? Do they think the game isn't very good? Is it very short? What's wrong with just a 5min demo?

I was wondering that. The graphics look nice but the game doesn't look up to much from the video.
I'd probably take a blind punt if I hadn't spent a fortune this month already so a demo would definitely be nice.

I actually just bought the game.
The artwork is wonderful, the music is nice BUT all in all it plays like any other platformer/shooter out there - the two characters are but an excuse since you have no control over one - it's just a "hovering gun" that shoots where you aim.
My main problem with the game is, however, that the platforming is so DAMN imprecise. Ledges are sometimes shorter than they appear, other times the jump doesn't seem to work, yet at other times the multi-layered backgrounds make it very hard to distinguish foreground elements.
I haven't been that frustrated by a platformer after just two levels since 65 Million and One BC...
I'll probably not even play it all the way to the end (unless it is fixed somehow) but well, it was just a fiver...

I hope the magazine is covering the cost of your purchase. Or save your five dollars to donate to the next starving freeware game developer. :)

The art work is very nice, but the enemies and level design feels repetitive very fast. Also, collision detection for platform jumping and the timing of the jump (sometimes right away, sometimes delayed) is just awful...
Currently stuck in the fourth level where I can't find the second gem and backtracking isn't fun at all.

Nah - I always buy indie games myself because I treat them as my hobby and think that their devs deserve the money most of the time - even if their project doesn't turn out to be THAT good. In this particular case I can try to convince myself that the artwork and music alone were worth the fiver. :-D
