IGN had posted three HD preview vids recorded from the upcoming WiiWare version of Cave Story. Each clip is about a minute long.

:o I see Quote's sprite's been changed.

Not too sure I like the change in music :S, hoping for an option to change it to original tunes

This new Quote looks wierd to me.

I never thought they'd replace the chiptune with MIDI samples when the soundtrack is so loved!

The sound in general was weird.

what's with the general MIDI ? GAH! what a travesty if that stays the way it is.

gotta love those low res hi def vids!

I'd like to say it's lost a bit of its charm... but it's a little early to tell. For one you can barely hear the music. I'm not sure how that video would look on an actual TV (twice the size of my monitor). Who knows what they'll change before it's released.

An option to downgrade the music and graphics would be fantastic though.... although the amount of data would likely be far too much for the Wii's size limit.

I'm still really looking forward to this. One reason why the sound is weird is simply because the audio recording is poor; it's not clear, and there are like, a bunch of people talking in the background.
If it doesn't have an option for the original audio and such, I'll just keep the PC version for when I feel like playing the classic.

If the music options don't include pixel's original Organya music format, I probably won't get the game. I greatly respect both pixel and Nicalis Inc, but the music needs to retain its original awesome quality.

Come on Crab changing the music doesn't make the game bad. Regardless of whether it's worse or better than the original the new version is absolutely worth buying if only to pay pixel some cash and to be able to play it while relaxing on the couch (well for most people I'd imagine). Not to mention new content.

EVERYONE needs to own this game. I'm going to make sure everyone I know buys it. If they don't, they will severely regret it.

It's not worth buying if it's not the same Cave Story I know and love. I wasn't expecting them to actually CHANGE the game itself into something it isn't meant to be.

I was hoping for simply new content, such as more levels, more weapons, and more boss fights.

There will be riots in the streets of Tokyo if they use those crappy MIDI versions of Pixel's lovely PXTones...

I agree, they need to fix the sound and the music, both are completely screwed.

The music just sounds like placeholder music.

Pixel worked hard on his music; he said so in an interview, and it's pretty obvious either way. So I think and hope they'll change it back.

The new quote does look weird, but if it makes anybody feel better, the new design was by Pixel himself

From what little I could see I liked the new design of quoute. The music is definitely worse though. Regardless, I'd buy it if I had a wii, for sure.

They missed the first Life Capsule!

I agree with the comments Dakaggo and Cactus made.
Also, along with Bleagle's comment, whoever it is that's playing in the vids, has obviously never played the original Cave Story...

feels bad man

Apparently an option to switch between the original sounds/sprites and the new ones will be available

If it's MIDI, like it sounds it is, then they can just make some sound font with chip like sounds and it's fixed.

I don't think they will screw it seeing Nifflas seems to be involved and he's a musician before anything.
