First World of Goo review in video format, consisting entirely of gameplay footage and cutscenes (although the sound is barely audible).

Well, this review finally made me make up my mind and pre-order this game.

I am so getting this as soon as it comes out.

Chetyre:

Same here :)

It is without a doubt a meticulously crafted game.

There's not much more to say, it isn't huge but everything just works. Great pacing, easy to pick up and put down or blaze through it, different styles of puzzles or interesting twists on old puzzles in every level, quirky humor, gorgeous and constantly changing graphics, everything (even the build materials) oozing with personality) ease of use yet depth, extra challenges for the obsessive of us.

It's not long but neither was portal, and carries much the same benefit from never trying to stretch something which is getting old.

I know this sounds just like an advertisement but it really is just so well done that trying to find a fault in it would be nit-picking. This is one game I really want to see get famous and break indie games into the mainstream.

Well there is one fault.

It's too short.

is this review of the pc or wiiware version? i'm curious as to which version i should grab since i have access to both. more than anything, what's important to me is which one ultimately controls *best* (even if the differences aren't egregious).

Grab the PC version if you have the option to. Tower of Goo (the concept-game this is based on) requires a fair amount of cpu power to compute the links, and even if he fixed some of the glitches that happen from having a less powerful CPU, you will get a graphically better game out of the PC version.

IGN seems to have a different opinion on that (they tested the Wii version):

I don't know about the graphics, but I'd guess that controlling the game with a Wiimote is more fun than playing it with a mouse, and the Wii version got a 2-player Coop mode.

Does anybody know if the PC version is moddable, so that there might be custom maps? I guess if that's not the case I'd go with the Wii version - if I had a Wii.

I believe that it is, or if it isn't it will be at some point. There has already been talk on the forums about creating custom skins (someone modded the goo files to change the colors of the goos). Of course, there is also the language pack being added in.

Hopefully user-made maps are in the works. Hopefully.

Looked for this on my wii but its not out yet in europe or something. Anyone know an EU date?

There's a passage about it in this interview: http://www.wiiware-world.com/news/2008/08/2d_boy_interview_world_of_goo

According to it WoG won't be released via Wiiware in Europe, only on a disc. And it will only be released in the first quarter next year. And it will cost 40€, instead of the 15€ it costs online.

That's a shame :/

What? Nobody has any excuse not to pick up the PC version immediately off 2dboy.com. C'mon, you owe it to yourself not to deprive yourself of wonderful Goo Product.
