GameCake is a new file hosting site which allows direct linking to uploaded files (with no word verification process), a service very similar to Will Host For Food. The download speed is blazing fast as well, considering that all files are hosted on Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service). Registered users can upload multiple screenshots to individual information pages, manage uploaded files, and even rate games created by other users.

There is a 35 MB file size limit in effect, although exceptions can be made for special cases. External download links are supported, and one can expect to see user comments and reviews added to GameCake very soon. Remember to zip your files first before submitting (only .zip, .rar, .tgz, and .gz files are accepted).

No more excuses for not having multiple mirrors for your games. Do consider these two alternatives instead of sticking to FileFront (consistent file download errors), RapidShare (word verification hassles), MegaUpload (certain countries are restricted from downloading), MediaFire and Host-A (no direct linking).

I don't understand this business model. S3 is pretty expensive, would the ads there really make back the bandwidth? Let's hope so, since it's a neat idea.

Consistent file download errors from Filefront? Y'wha? Maybe I'm just astoundingly lucky but I've been downloading stuff off their site on and off for years now, and haven't gotten a single error of any sort.

I often host files on Google Pages/Google Sites. It's free, lots of space.

Paul: There is not much of a business model. I am not looking to make money, but the goal is for ads and a few other goodies to come later to keep the site sustainable :) Thanks for the comment though!

The goal of the site isn't just for direct linking, but that's pretty much all there is now. You will see some more interesting community based features coming soon :)
