Update: City Rain has now been released and is available to download for $9.95 from Direct2Drive

Original Story: City Rain - Building Sustainability will be available soon to purchase, according to the brand-spanking new official site. Downloadable through Direct2Drive, City Rain will cost somewhere between $9.95 and $14.95.

One of the winners of the IGF Student Showcase this year, it's a cross between Sim City and Tetris where players must fit falling buildings onto a plot of land to create a bustling city, complete with power plants, schools, police stations and more. The upcoming release will feature worldwide online ranking and a bonus game called Blockmania.

It's a unique experience and there is plenty of fun to be had. A demo is available to play on the official site.

cool game

Why would anyone voluntarily release their games on Direct2Shite? It's really the very worst of all download services...

Enough of a reason to discount any possibility of me ever buying it, at least.

I totally agree. I wanted to buy this game too. Eh, saves me $10 I guess, but I did want to support Mother Gaia Studio's work. Too bad for them.

I think it's rather extreme to not help them out just for using D2D.

My guess is that it has something to do with D2D sponsoring IGF - i.e. where City Rain was given its fame.

Yes, I don't understand why there's so much D2D hate. Maybe it's cool to hate on D2D? Who knows, kids these days will do anything.

It's not that it's "cool" to hate on D2D. It's that we're dealing with DRM. When buying a physical disc, it doesn't matter who you buy it from because you can use it the same way 10, 15, 20 years from now, on any compatible hardware you choose. I buy my games for the long haul, and I'd rather my licenses not be strewn across several services, having to remember who I bought a game from in order for me to play it again. It takes more trust to buy digital than physical. I still play my NES games sometimes. Will I be able to do that with digital downloads 20 years from now? Who knows, but I'm choosing to invest with a service I feel is strongest, and treats the customers the best. D2D is not on that list for me.

City Rain was just release today as a full fledge game. We corrected major flaws in the XNA concept and incorporate many new features. Hope everyone will enjoy it. It will be out on XBOX Live Indie in 1 months.
