Preview: Flipper! (Goodbye Galaxy Games)
I found it quite absurd that there's no sound to complement this trailer, but I was also rather excited at the prospect of featuring our first DSi-Ware indie game here at IndieGames, so I said "meh" and gave it a post anyway!
Developed by a Mr. Hugo Smits, Flipper! is a game all about helping our hero find his lost goldfish, using the DS stylus to blow up walls, build staircases and connect bridges. Originally meant for the DS, it looks like it could be a nice little title.
We'd like a little bit of music to accompany the next trailer though please, Mr Hugo sir!

lack of sound really kills it for me... not sure I understand the game yet
with better presentation this could work

Just got my DSi yesterday, this game looks pretty interesting, I might have to get it when it comes out :D

All I can say is "Good luck" for DSi Ware indie pioneer! :)
@ mots
How can you not get the mechanics. C'mon :>

oh dear.. how much of a Fez rip-off does this want to be.

@alspal:
Not at all :) this is a puzzle game where you need to use powerups to modify the landscape to your advantage.
So from a gameplay view it's quite different to Fez.

Well, to some extent the graphical style and the choice of colours seems to be quite similar to Fez. But I think exactly those colours in combination have been used lots of times, so I don't see any kind of "ripping off" here.
Flipper looks nice, but at least from the trailer it looks like it might get repetitive if the gameplay doesn't vary much.
Anyway, I won't get a DSi anytime soon, I'm satisfied with my DS Lite. But maybe if there's enough of an indie scene around DSiWare in the future I might change my mind :)

I would love it if this site actually remembered my details when I checked that option.
The deformation in this looks really awesome, kudos for getting that going on the DS. The point and click movement looks a little shaky though - maybe it works better with a stylus. You should have some visual feedback as to where you're pointing in case you end up sending the guy the wrong way. Perhaps have movement also on the d-pad?

I don't think the "Remember personal info" option ever worked. (definitely not after fixing the spam problem a couple of months ago)
Might remove the check box from the template altogether to put a stop to the confusion. Sorry about that..

Hey guys, thanks for the response!
@Alex:
Yes movement works better on real hardware with a stylus (I used an emulator for the trailer). But it also still needs some work. The visual feedback part for movement has been mentioned before (when I did some play testing) so that’s pretty high on my todo-list :)
@MisterX
Yes, you are correct. The visual style seems a bit like Fez. Although that’s not fully by choice. I’m using voxels which is the same technology (at least for the visual part) as the trixels(which Fez uses).
The problem with that is it automatically gives you this pixel/blocky style. You can make photo-realistic graphics with voxels, however that requires a very high grid resolution. Which requires lots and lots of RAM, way more than current-gen consoles/pc’s have, let alone a handheld like DS.
However I’m confident that just like the gameplay, the visual style is also going to differ from Fez. Every world in Flipper has his own theme, so the blue-sky theme is just one of many!
