Markus Persson's Minecraft is a block-based sandbox building game originally inspired by Infiniminer, but one that requires no installation of any software to play. A Java-enabled browser is all that is needed, and though the current alpha version does not have multiplayer features yet the developer has promised that new single and multiplayer game modes will be added very soon.

You can add or remove blocks using the left mouse button. Right-click to switch between removing or adding blocks, and use the numeral keys 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 to change block type. Creative players can build anything from houses, mazes, towers and even castles with their own moats and bridges with just a little time spent on construction.

I like how very simple this is. If he focuses on the ability to create nice little worlds in comparatively short periods of time and eventually adds multiplayer functionality, I'll be gladly looking forward to new versions :)

Agreed. Simple and fun, with definite potential. I'd really like it if I could customize the map size to improve my fps.

Definitely keeping an eye on this :3

This game its amazing. I created very easily a castle that led to a underground dungeon with a little cell rounded by a large gap, and then a small house with a hole leading to a small hole in the back of the cell.
Even with my bad pc, the game don't have a really bad performace.

Damn you, tim! I can say goodbye to most of my life now that you've introduced me to Infiniminer and Minecraft!

I AM HOLDING YOU RESPONSIBLE IF I DISAPPEAR FROM LIFE AS WE KNOW IT!

Just kidding. excellent find!

Oh, I guess it might be that I have an Intel card, according to his blog. My fps drops to as low as 2-3 often ]:

From the little I played of it, this has some potential to be something amazing. Like a Garry's mod for landscaping/architecture.

I'll keep watch of this.

Its strange. I'm not able to edit anything. the blocks don't highlight like they do in the demo videos and I cant add or remove bricks. Reminds me of Sauerbraten (Cube2) though.

Pretty fun to waste some time and mess around with, I'm hoping for a save function though.

Alright, you mentioned screenshots..

With too much spare time on the hands, I eventually ended up with this little castle: http://s5b.directupload.net/images/user/090518/cbahcd93.jpg

Here's a screenshot of something I made :

Wow, this little toy is FUN. It pretty much sucked my entire Sunday afternoon away. And the idea of multiplayer in the future improves it even more. Two things come to mind though. The first is the ability to save your maps. And as a potential game mode, I would love to see something in the direction of "Build a fortress to defend yourself from zombies." Also, ladders would be nice.

Great start.. do wish there was an easier way to build hanging blocks out in front of you

MisterX: brilliant! but why jpgs.. :~(

Neat game, I made a castle thing with weird trench.

Neat little toy. Could make for some very interesting games.

There is something wrong with picking. I often cut blocks behind the actual selected blocks (the highlight indication shows the correct one).

I want to save my creation! :(

It's a neat little game for what it is, but if you're into block building, especially in an online - multiplayer collaborative environment with a much more comprehensive editing environment check out sauerbraten.

Very good game. Still, I find it really necesary to have a save function.

It's currently in beta testing, but be sure to check out Atmosphir for a similar game: http://atmosphir.com/

Worlds are SUPER easy to create, and they are adding new stuff all the time. Also, when you save your world you are saving it to their server. The game includes a great little "level browser" that lets you play other people's levels and rate them.

Fun stuff. :)

I love this. Very addictive. Though a save and share function would be awesome. It's the only thing that keeps me from putting some time into it really.

Oh, sorry about that Tim. I could reupload them as pngs, if you like.

Atmosphir looks interesting. But I much prefer the retro feel of Minecraft :D

I was bored this afternoon and came up with the Mob Pit o' Doom:

I was somehow bored enough to turn it into a video (which YouTube is faffing about with right now). If you think a regiment or three of mobs falling down a hole is worth a chuckle:

I made an entire kingdom yesterday. I'm particularly proud of the church and the village buildings.

I got bored and spent some time making a castle. It turned out all right. (i'll upload .png's later)

Just a small castle.
24+ hours in the works though.

where do you download it from?
