This application currently runs on a dev kit for the Tegra, although one can imagine that games which merge camera usage with 3D application in unique and creative ways can't be too far off in the future.

The buildings, civilians and zombies only exist on the screen of the mobile phone, and the camera view changes accordingly as you point at different locations on the special map.

ARhrrrr! (Augmented Environments Lab)

The video above shows sound effects being procedurally generated. Looping sound effects coming from a waterfall or pool could be a thing of the past if this algorithm is ever implemented in 3D games.

Is that first one a viral skittles ad?

Skittles might have contributed something... but doesn't seem like a viral ad pure and simple, since the whole thing is being developed by Georgia Tech's Augmented Environments Lab.

This looks cool. Can't wait to try a good AR game.

I was impressed by the second video as well. Man I love technology.

Interesting concept.

this is certainly a gateway twords a new way to play any and every existing genre. but i guess the only downside is that you need a specialized mat to play the game.

I think this special mat could be easily become a home made mat, but they had to change the programation a little, it should ahd to be something like, anything that have two way roads around it it should be a 3D building, then the first thing it should had to be painted inside the roads it was gonna be the walls, after the walls it should be a thick black line telling the system that the wall was finished then you should need to paint the ceiling. So the program should read:
street = start building and start using the painted texture as a wall.
black line = start painting the ceiling.

That's pretty interesting. If that shared wifi between other tegras, you could pull off some interesting board game rpg's. Games like Battletech, Warhammer, even D&D 4e are build around the board. Imagine having total control over your own virtual character in a turn-based dungeon crawl, or even real-time. Moving armies of mechs across hex boards. Lots of potential, even just for board games.

Fatal Frame on this. 'nuff said.
