« Mini-Review: Aaaaa! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity Pre-Release (Dejobaan Games) | Main | Freeware Game Pick: Monos (Yamahara) »

Trigger is a tough horizontal shooter created by Stephen Lavelle, developer of intriguing experimental projects such as Opera Omnia and Rara Racer. The ship that you pilot is armed with only one weapon, but when used effectively it can destroy just about any mothership you might encounter on this dangerous mission.

Multiple enemy targets can be targeted at the same time by holding down the A key. When the button is released, all enemies targeted will be shot at automatically. To inflict more damage, simply chain together a couple of targets before blasting them all in one go. All enemy ships must be destroyed, or you would have to play the same stage all over again. The only occasions where this doesn't apply is during boss fights, in which there are four of them in total.

Note that the game is extremely difficult and challenging, and players who are easily frustrated should avoid playing increpare's latest effort. There are twenty-four stages to blast through in both Windows and Mac OS X versions.

I couldn't even beat the first level :(

I tried this little guy a few days ago, but Trigger beat me up something awful. I'm terrible at shmups in the first place, so maybe I'm not the best judge? ;-)

You're a fine judge. Since you have to kill all the enemies, there is little room for error. Then again, I like games like that. I genuinely enjoy IWBTG.

this game is awful imo. i love shooters. and i even liked iwbtg.

but knock yourself out. its free and its small.

I really like the mechanic for the firing, and how the creator designed various enemy types around it. Yeah, the difficulty's up there, but each level (except boss battles) can be memorized.

Gotten to the third boss so far, and he's frigging impossible. Been trying at him for over an hour, and I can't even get his health below 50%.

3 tips that enabled me to get past the 3rd boss:
1) The 3rd boss doesn't take much damage unless you lock on to all 6 targets before attacking.
2) If neither of you are moving, he is incapable of firing a shot that will hit you.
3) savedat.bin is equal to level ^ 1234123 (1234137 skips the 3rd boss).
