Trine Released
Trine, a mix of 'Prince of Persia with Flashback', is now available to download through Steam for $29.99 (£19.99).
I'll be perfectly honest, I only noticed Trine a month ago, but the most recent trailer (shown after the cut) and a play through the demo was enough to get me interested.
Here's the blurb:
Trine is a fantasy action game where the player can create and use physics-based objects to beat hazardous puzzles and threatening enemies. Set in a world of great castles and strange machinery, three heroes are bound to a mysterious device called the Trine in a quest to save the kingdom from evil…
Switching between these three heroes is essential to completing each puzzles and destroying enemies. The demo is definitely worth a play, showing off the first level. As usual I will be reporting back sometime next week with my opinion. For now check out the official Trine site for more details.

While I don't really see the similarities to Prince of Persia or Flashback, as in my opinion it is much more of a modern take on The Lost Vikings, it's a great game indeed :)
At least the demo was great fun and I think I'll be buying the full version soon enough. The time it takes to play through the game might be a little low, as I've heard from someone who has already finished it in a little less than 5 hours. But, I've played through the demo about 7 or 8 times, and I expect that the levels of the full version are also going to offer a lot of replayability for me.

What, they did currency conversion for USD/GBP but not for Euro? It's 29.99€ here, which is about $42. The game looks great, but that's too expensive for me.

At least the prices seem to be intentional, but the developers couldn't give a proper explanation as to why it is like that. Though, for what it's worth, they did say that the Euro price is the "correct" one, and that the dollar/pound/psn price is basically discounted.

My only disappointment is as far as I can tell like all Shadowbyte games there's only local multiplayer.

Syrion, that just makes this worse. Ignorance is one thing, it's quite another to intentionally discriminate people from a certain part of the world just because they can. That just rubs me the wrong way. The discounted "argument" doesn't change anything.

Don't bother complaining, Anonymous. Almost *EVERY* developer does it. It's really stupid. Australia always has games more expensive, and New Zeland is even worse. Euro prices for games seem enviable from our point of view.

Frozenbyte recently commented on their forums that it wasn't them who set the price for the PC versions, but their publisher/distributer, Nobilis.
Don't blame the passionate guys who made the game if you don't like the price. They just want to make a great game.

Looks really sweet :) Co-op mode seems to be great.
I also don't see Prince of Persia or Flashback here tbh, though ;)

B: I forgot another statement by the developers. They did say they publish Trine on their own via Steam, but somehow have to stick to the prices set by the developers for the other versions. I'm not really into this, but it does make some sense to me.
Still, for how very honest the developers were and are on the official forums, it's still weird that they couldn't give a really clear explanation of why the prices are what they are.
Still, one shouldn't think that Frozenbyte are just another "evil" developer because of just that, there are really more things to take into consideration for that. For example the wonderful game they made and how passionate they seem to be about it. Spirit-wise they really seem pretty indie to me :)

The graphics are pretty good, through the rouge's animations looked a little jerky to me (could've just been my computer). I'm interested in buying it, but unfortunately it's not in my price range. Fingers crossed that it'll be a weekend deal on Steam at some point in the near future.

Just purchased :)
The developers hinted at that there's very likely going to be a weekend deal for Trine, but I wouldn't count on it happening any time in the "near future".

Ah, well. I can wait ;P
