Preview: Project Q (Nicalis)
You'd think Nifflas was working on enough already! With the announcement of La Mulana earlier in the week, and of course Cave Story and Night Game still in the works, Nifflas and his team have revealed yet another WIP to IGN - mysteriously named Project Q.
IGN also has an interview with the guys regarding the game. (via TIGSource)

Wow... Looking pretty darn attractive already if you ask me.
The gameplay mechanics definitely resemble those of Knytt and Knytt Stories so far, including what looked like a save spot, but I realize this is a little too early to say "This is the next Knytt."
I'm really looking forward to hearing more news on this one! The Nicalis team (with Nifflas) sure has been working on some great stuff. :)

Very pretty, but at this point it looks like Nicalis gets way too distracted by shiny objects. When they announce five unreleased games I'll hold a party.

Does the fast running and jumping feel at odds with the quiet, contemplative atmosphere?
It's like adding a running Usain Bolt to the movie "No Country for Old Men".

The gameplay does look almost exactly like Knytt Stories and quite a few of the enemies look like they are taken straight out of it as well.
Not that this is a bad thing since I loved Knytt and Knytt Stories.

Isn't that statue-head thingie shown at around 0:30 on the UC Davis Ccampus?

Woah, Nifflas has really played his Knytts-- OH, wait, he made 'em. My mistake.
Seriously, that looks a lot like Knytt. The feeling, the musics, the seemingly simplistic graphics...
...and that's just awesome! I just LOVE Knytt & Knytt Stories, the atmosphere of both games is one of the most ethereal atmospheres in a game. Ever. I've been searching for those ethereal games and Knytt Stories is so far the best in the terms of atmosphere. Any suggestions on other relaxing games?
A sad thing is that if this comes to WiiWare, it misses all of the HD glory (Wii games look kinda blurry on my television even though that hasn't stopped me from enjoying good Wii games like, for example, Twilight Princess) it would have would it come to XBLA. But then again, the game looks awesome (love the graphics
Oh, and Anonymous is right, the fast running an jumping look a little bit odd but I don't think it'll ruin the game.

Is there any reason at all to announce all these new games without having released any? There must be some very weird business decisions behind all these announcements. Is it a funding issue? Because so far they haven't released one game, and it's all starting to look like Vaporware.
It's clearly a spiritual successor to Knytt. Let's hope it doesn't take a year or more to release. Maybe they shouldn't announce games until they're a month from release?

I agree...let's see some stuff released, rather than announcing even more projects.

Now that I think about it, the previous Anonymous is right--this video didn't originally feel very Knytty to me because of the fast running and jumping. I love the city-looking environments too though, so I'll be interested in seeing where it leads, eventually.
