Freeware Mod Pick: Hazard - The Journey of Life
Hazard - The Journey of Life is a 3D exploration game that features a host of creative puzzles to solve, but contains no real danger or enemies in sight. You begin in a room called the HoloChamber, which acts as a central home that you can teleport to using the escape key at any time. The map on the wall shows the rooms which you have explored previously, and you can click on it to activate a teleporter that sends you to that location immediately.
The mod requires both Unreal Tournament 3 and the 2.0 patch installed before it can run properly, but it is definitely worth going through all the trouble just to play this one-of-a-kind experience. Alexander's creation was also recently selected as one of the ten finalists for the upcoming Sense of Wonder Night 2009 event.

Looks awesome. I love what the narrator has to say, but his voice and delivery doesn't really go well with the images. Minor nitpick though.

I just bought Unreal Tournament 3 on steam especially to check this out. Though it's an 8 gig download, so it might take a while :O

Forgot to mention that I've spent about two hours on the game already, and I don't think I've solved even half of the puzzles contained within. I don't remember hearing any voice overs in that two hours as well. The voice work is probably only for the trailer.

I've not used any walkthroughs other than some hints shown in the trailer above, since none has been written at this point in time.

Oh right. I should mention that Hazard is like Portal meets Braid. (minus the portals and time manipulation stuff)

Now I need to buy Unreal Tournament 3.. Damn you!

Oh, another philosophical first person single player exploration puzzle art game?... just joking, looks awesome! :).

I was thrilled about this game - right up my alley! Until I learned it was a UT3 mod. It reminded me why I despise PC gaming and its wretched pre-requisites.

@dieubussy:
Oh, the horror! You have to spend a couple of bucks on games to enjoy the hundreds of mods available! So many pre-requisites!
Absolutely wretched!
Anyway, the mod looks amazing. At only 12 MB, I will definitely try that out when I get over my Killing Floor addiction. :P

O Noes, a couple of bucks? I demand the guy who made this mod to buy the unreal engine licence by 700,000 dolars and make the game free for download!

I think he was complaining more about the need to download UT3 to play this game, not necessarily the price. This looks great though, I'll have to get UT3 and check it out.

I like the fact that indiegames.com is posting a mod up here. I'd love to see you guys give us more of this. There are too many great mods that don't get enough attention.

Aww. I can't afford to download 8gb.

I've spent an hour and a half in there, and still have so many finished paths that I'm a little despondent. I suppose I'll be back in there soon, but it's frustrating that it's so obtuse (and fairly buggy engine-wise)

Hey guys,
First off, let me say that I'm very glad that you went off to find UT3 to try this Tim after we last spoke. Thanks heaps.
Just a comment about this game. If I had to give an estimate of where it's development was at, I'd say it's in perpetual 99% mode. There's always things that can be fixed, and I appreciate all of the feedback people can give.
I'm in Tokyo right now, as I need to present tomorrow, but when I get home I'll be very happy to respond to any questions people have about the game.
If you've played the game for a long while and you get overwhelmingly frustrated, please email me and I will help! The game isn't perfect, and I know that, but I'm one person, and I had more and more time constraints coming up to release.
Thanks guys!

@PostmanX3
No, the problem is not the price, as I can get any game for free; nor the download because I'd get an actual retail copy of it anyway. What bothered me the most was the prospect of installing UT3 in my computer. Seriously, how humiliating would that be?
Yes. Go wild all you want.

looks so good ...and the concept sounds interesting too!
too bad, my compi wouldn't run UT3 either...

@dieubussy:
What's wrong with Unreal Tournament 3? It's not like it's SecuROM'd up or anything.
And I still need to get around to playing this mod. BUT KILLING FLOOR CALLS TO ME SO. DAMN YOU KILLING FLOORRRRRRRRR
Posted by: postmanX3 | September 24, 2009 11:32 PM
@dieubussy
Uh, not at all because worrying about that crap is one of the most stupid things to ever get worked up over?
Posted by: Whom | September 25, 2009 4:56 AM
No, I'm not that bothered. This mod seems impressive, though. Maybe we can see more mods here at indiegames in the future.
Posted by: dieubussy | September 25, 2009 3:49 PM
heh reminds me of the Cube movies

Could possible be the coolest game I've ever played!
Posted by: AJ | September 28, 2009 6:09 AM
I'm completely stuck on the "Too Hard to Cross" puzzle, the "Overcoming the Hurdles" puzzle, and the other puzzles for where I presumably need the gun. I don't know where else to go.
Posted by: Dave | September 29, 2009 5:34 AM
Nevermind... got the gun, and a little more than halfway done with the game. Wow, some of these puzzles really require some digging and ingenuity. Well done!
