A 30 MB demo for Amanita Design's Machinarium is now available to download from FilePlanet (or DemoNews.de if you are not a FilePlanet subscriber).

The full version will be available to purchase from the official site, Direct2Drive ($5 discount), Impulse, Steam and GamersGate this coming October 16th. (source)

That was a pretty great demo. I'm glad I dawdled when it came to preordering this game, as it looks like I can get a better deal through D2D. Thanks Tim!

D2D is lousy, I'd rather buy it for 5 dollars more right from the site.

Is there an OSX version of the demo available?

Don't forget that you still get $3 off for pre-ordering Machinarium from the official site.

There doesn't seem to be a Mac demo, yet.

I've played the demo. It's very well done, but also very, very short, which I guess is representative of the full game's length.
Still, it's original, very coherent with nice graphics, great animations, good music and comfortable and creative puzzles, and not the least bit simpatico. I'm sure this will be easily recommendable to just about anyone who doesn't entirely hate point & click adventures.

Indie Game of the Year 2009.

Hi,

The game slows down drastically after 15/20 seconds, and scratches appear in the music. So it becomes unplayable.
This issue is solved by switching on windowed mode.
I'm on Vista 32 with Nvidia Geforce 9300M GS (512 Mo Model) with drivers 186.81.

BTW, awesome game !

demo.exe ? i'm afraid it will not work on Linux - weird is the developer assured this game will run fine on Linux, since it's done entirelly on Flash

Also, recall that not only is there still a deal on the pre-order from the machinarium website, but also that the pre-order will include the game soundtrack. Given the soundtrack sneak and quality of music in Samorost, I'd say it's well worth the extra $2.

Yeah, I'd rather wait for it on Steam or some other competent distribution service - not FailPlanet or D2D.

Blair: As I understood it, you will get the soundtrack, anyway, if you buy it from the official page. I think the only pre-order bonuses, apart from the $3 discount, are that you get 5 hi-res pictures and 5 songs from the soundtrack in mp3 format right now.

And, as usual, I guess buying it directly at the official site will ensure that all the money you pay goes directly to the developer.

It's very pretty!
I hope the developers disguise its Flash origins a tad better before release - right clicking brings up the Flash settings!

You have to click a little under the red button in order to get it to work, it took me a while to figure it out.

This is such a stylish, lovingly crafted game. Hats off to the developers. I totally fell in love with it at GDC, and I can't wait to play the full thing.

Hey I downloaded the OSX Demo. But unfortunately I can't seem to get it working.. :-/

hi Mac users,
please ignore that Mac Demo from GamersGate - it doesn't work (and they are very slow to change it).

this one is functional:
http://www.bigdownload.com/games/machinarium/pc/machinarium-demo-mac/

they screwed up when they decided to make it in flash. It crashed more times than a one legged man on a bicycle.
