« Old Favourite: That Night Before (Scurvyliver) | Main | Dream.Build.Play 2009 Winners Announced »

Sunday, September 6, 2009

Farbs has just released Captain Forever, his latest project, in a sort of 'prelaunch' style way. Those who pay $15 will get instant access to the game, plus access to all future versions of the game. Those who don't pay will gain access to the game once it becomes free.

Farbs himself gives you the two different options better than I could:

Support Captain Forever Later

- Your computer may be too puny to run the game, but if you wait for the free release you can use it to learn this crushing truth without having to pay anything.
- You might not like the game. Again, waiting to play the free version will help you figure this out.
- I may get hit by a falling satellite, and thus never release any premium content.

Support Captain Forever Now

- You’ll get to play Captain Forever now while it’s still obscure and cool.
- I am fuelled by your love.
- It’s $5 cheaper.

Either way, check it out at CaptainForever.com.

Comments

Sounds like it won't ever be fully free, it just currently has no demo available, so you can choose to wait for that, or "risk" your money now to support him. Or something.

@Al3xand3r - The next game is more like a sequel. Sure, it'll share a bunch of code and content and be a bit cooler, but the first game (Captain Forever) is already a complete experience.

Looks really cool.

Looks nice. It has a sort of "programmable robots fighting against each other" vibe to it. I like the vector graphics look to it (admittedly, I've got more then a bit of retro-gamer in me).

My concerns are re-playability & independent content creation. I like games that I can edit & is edit-friendly. Sadly, I've become one of those gamers who needs the game to be both an erector set & game in order for it to be a buy.

Don't let my comments discourage, though. There are many gamers out there who are casual gamers who just need a 10-minute quick fix before going back to being productive members of society, unlike myself.

@Anonymous: you'll like this game then. The game has clear objectives and is quite 'game like'. The editing only applies to building and rebuilding your ship.

I registered last night; this is a pretty special game and definitely deserves your support!

i am cool and into obscure indie games.

This looks great, Farbs.

Why dont release a Demo asaps? i like what i see in the video.. but 15$? no way i pay that much without testing it first..
