In Gravmari you control the Playertoid, a sphere that has to absorb asteroids and small planets to grow and fuel itself. There are only grey space rocks to collect at first, but soon you'll be able to absorb moons and orbiting planets after playing for a couple of minutes. The Playertoid can also eject mass at the press of a button to propel itself in the direction of your choosing.

I guess it's sort of nice, but I wouldn't say it's better than Osmos.
Then again, it's not Osmos was the first one to do the whole " Eat things smaller then yourself and achieve motion by shooting parts of yourself off " gimmick, but it certainly pulled it off rather well.

Not to disregard the similarity, but we created this game before ever learning of the existence of Osmos. This game was inspired by Katamari Damacy, as I assume Osmos was as well. Also, if you actually play the game, it is quite different.

My big problem is that there are a number of bugs/gameplay issues that make it really frustrating. First, there is almost no instructions on what things do. I still do not know why I sometimes randomly die when I enter a gravity well. You can have a giant planet come through and send you and everything around you flying away at high speed. This essentially consigns you to a slow death. Then there is the bug where after a certain size, your mass ejections will go a certain distance away and then become locked to your position.

Not a bad attempt, but it could have definitely benefited from some beta testing/QA feedback.

At the risk of having 50% of the comments on this site be from the devs, I'd like to ask you to elaborate on some of these issues. We were on a tight schedule to get this submitted to IGF, so I hope you don't mind being the QA feedback we needed :-)

What do you mean you randomly die when you enter a gravity well? Does the fuel low buzzer go off, or is it something else? Could you describe that situation more?

Giant planet is a known problem and incredibly, incredibly hard to fix. Thanks for pointing it out though.

Also, "after a certain size, your mass ejections will go a certain distance away and then become locked to your position". I've never seen that... what are you doing before that happens? Are you holding down the right trigger (if you're using a controller)?

Sometimes, when you are small, you will go into a gravity well and immediately get a fuel warning. No matter how much you absorb, your fuel will run out much faster. As a guess, you are not losing the (I assume there is one) debuff to your fuel when you are in one.

I have a feeling the giant planet maybe related to the last complaint I had. Or at least, my behavior in reacting to the planet. The mass ejections getting locked to your position has only happened when I try to react to the giant planet. I play using the mouse and yeah, I spam it sometimes after a giant planet.

It bugs me when designers code in 360-controller support, but can't be arsed to support standard PC gamepads.

A good Logitech pad costs $10-$20, a 360 pad costs $40-$50. Nobody who doesn't already own a 360 is going to have the latter.

Osmos, Osmos...

Nintendo made Orbital for Game Boy Advance in 2006! Check it out!

It is a great game. I really enjoyed it. I have not played it in full as all my best attempts ends when the screen gets completely dark.I can hear the ship moving and also the background sounds, but since i can't see anything, i soon get the fuel buzzer and then it's a nice game over printed on the screen as usual.Can we expect to see a fix soon? I am playing this on a asus laptop with XP,intel T7500@2200 with ati mobility 2600,2gb ram.

This bug has been fixed and a new version has been posted.
