I usually steer clear of Mario remakes and the like, but this is way too clever an idea to pass up on. Initially playing out like a normal game of Mario, you'll soon come to a wall of blocks which seems impassable. But never fear - pressing space will switch to 'Tetris Mode', and you'll then be able to make a route for Mario to climb over using Tetris blocks.

I've seen developers try to meld the two classics together before, but never this well. Tuper Tario Tros. may be experimental, but it just works so beautifully. You also have 2 different scores which are added together at the end - your Mario score, and your Tetris score. Yes, you can indeed build 'Tetrises'.

Just make sure you make it all the way to the end of the level - the final part is pretty clever. Newgrounds ahoy!

Yes indeed, very clever done.
Personally I dont' like the two scores though. I'd like it more if the tetris aspect was more of a tool to get Mario further in the level.

Mr. Henry Hatsworth, eat your heart out!

Idea is good, but it still neds an improvement. The slow scrolling screen is just annoying when in mario mode. The screen should sroll only when the mario moves to the right, like in the original mario game. Also there needs to be a running key.

Oh, that was awesome!

And, pretty difficult...

I also agree that the game could have used a run button.

A run button and a way to speed up the forced scrolling definitely would have helped, but I still enjoyed it.

You guys should be playing a game of Tetris while you wait for the slow-forced scroll. I agree it should use a run button though, and ducking should be an option as well. I loved how the terrain creation and destruction fit succinctly into the game, and I chuckled when I squished goombas with Tetris pieces.

Interesting indeed but I wish the scrolling was handled differently. ):

Not very fun but sure was cool.

The last part with the castle was the only time the game got interesting: otherwise, with no run or duck buttons mario is boring and stiff in a grid that shouldn't be anything but, making the game fit "tetris platformer" but not an actual mix of Mario and Tetris at all. Mario scoring is also brain-dead since bouncing off multiple enemies gives the same 100, and only a single coin is ever found in any block; being hit is not only very unlikely (though interesting in the sudden mode shift), but with no power-ups to find whatsoever Mario feels like a dead weight dragged on to make the Tetris blocks have something to do.
A shame, since the idea looks quite good on paper and the castle bit shows how easy it'd be to make new challenges.

Guys, this is clearly a proof of concept, it's rough and lakcs all the advanced features, but you may already see it in its future addictive form.
All he needs is to hear that it has potential, and it has a lot.
