Earth is a Space Invaders-type shooter with a message, made for the Experimental Gameplay's art game theme. Besides playing the game in the conventional way, the developer has included optional methods to complete your mission as well.

This experimental project isn't going to appeal to everyone, but Earth does fits the bill perfectly as an installation in a Space Invaders-themed art exhibition. (source)

thanks to lose/lose. I can't play a shooter without thinking about my files :D

I sure hope not. Had it deleted any files I wouldn't be here posting about it. ;)

I downloaded Earth-2, but I wonder what platform this game is for? I only see *.txt file.

It's a very interesting game. I greatly enjoyed how the various options and effects unfolded as I made play choices and experimented. It's failing is in how I didn't feel a sense of progress despite certain escalation. I wasn't able to tell if I was reaching some sort of end and didn't care to find out, past a certain point.

"various options and effects unfolded as I made play choices and experimented"

uh...?!!??

A great idea, but it goes on wayyyyyy too long, my wrist was killing from the spacebar-mashing.

Maybe you should have held down the spacebar.

I thought it was.. "neat", but for how basic it is I also found that it's just too long. Does it even end at some point? I couldn't be bothered to go on playing for that long if it does.

I'd hardly say it was long, but it did get very irritating. The missiles from earth were especially bad because they came at completely random intervals. Also nothing like missing a shot and killing 20,000 people.

Took me a while to figure out, but Earth fires missiles at YOU, not the invaders. This is even if Earth starts firing because you did nothing.

First of all, thanks for the pick up! I never expected that my game made in less than a week and with a "artsy" theme would appear here.

The length and difficulty of the game are a part of the message: can you focus on your task until all aliens are here (all 511 of them ; so 16 waves, roughly 4-5 minutes)? Do you choose the easy way of dealing with the situation or do you try to do something else (but that gets way more difficult)? Can you get a perfect score? Can you save everybody?

I have to admit the game lacks a little bit of balance and might get a little but long. But getting all the possible aliens to show was something I really wanted to have in this game. So bear with them.

(For the last point with Earth firing at you even if you just did nothing, that's a mistake on my part. I did not think enough. But hey, they get pissed because you disobey orders!)

I liked the idea, but I found the one hit = player dead to be a bit gamebreaking; "You Died" is pretty discouraging considering the relatively slow pace of the game and the time that is required for a playthrough. A red flash and causing player to lose control for a second would be a lot better in my opinion, as you are still able to try to do what you were doing, but you know that being shot is bad for your health.
