Genetos is a vertical shooter that pays tribute to many classic and modern day shoot 'em ups, where the enemies and weapons evolve as you progress from one stage to another. The game offers plenty of configuration settings that cater to players of all skill levels, although some of the advanced features like invincibility and the boss rush mode are only available after you've beaten the entire game at least once.

The type of weapons that you unlock is determined by your style of play as well, and a history of your completed achievements are accessible via the history option at the main menu. (Windows, 26.9MB)

AWESOME!
finally it is done...
fantastic classic yet modern and historic shooting experience!
thanks for the update tim. :)

hmm, it's not running on my fresh Vista SP2 install.

Wow, I've waited so long for this game to be finished, and it was worth the wait.

@josh:
Works fine for me under Vista64 SP2.

Curse you 503 error code! I need a new shmup to play!

No sound under Wine. Also, it craps out after beating the boss of Generation 4.

Oh well...

Wow... This is the most emotional shooter i've played. Really awesome!

That was amazing! This was by far one of my favorite free shmups, and the new levels just made it more insane!

Also, cocks (and dildos).

I want someone to make a soundtrack rip, the music in this is great but I don't want to open it every time just to listen to it. Granted there are 3 songs that can be accessed via the data/music folder.

Wow... just wow...

qwest, you should be able to access all of them... just take the .ores off the end.

ah, so i had to set the permission in vista to "run as administrator". works now!

Best free game I've played since Cave Story! well done!

@Anonymous:
I already tried that, but that method is only working for me on the mp3.ore files. All the others are mid.ore, which at first led me to believe they were MIDI files, but all of my audio players can't render either of these (foobar, winamp, audacity, windows media player home cinema, windows media player).

Anyone unlock the last side weapon? I can't figure out what "Get 10 DNA or more" means, since I already unlocked 13 abilities, unless it's talking about the Green DNA.

The only green DNA location I know of is in stage 1 (for Orbit, it's the last invader in the column second to left, consequently, there's a 1up on the opposite side). I have yet to find any DNA past stage 1's (I'm still unable to find the DNA on stages 2-4).

Also, any tips on getting the "Get 70 combo or more"? I was able to do that combo on the 3rd stage when I had the flash bomb, but when I evolved, the bomb doesn't change. Well, I guess I should try comboing 70+ on stage 4 first, but I wasted all of my bombs on 3.

I just comboed 90 on stage 4 (but not stage 3), and I wasn't able to get the last bomb evolution. You can't do combos unless it's with the side arm or bomb (afaik), and the bomb is the first upgrade you get so you can actually combo (end of stage 3), so I wouldn't think it's possible to get it before hand, but I'm not getting it to work. Anyone else have luck with it?

This game is really wonderful, but you sorta need to bump up the difficulty to hacker before you're presented with something resembling a challenge. Not a complaint, it's just sort of unusual.

The 10 DNA unlock isn't just for DNA that unlocks other things, it's also for DNA that gives extra lives and bombs. As long as you manage to get 10 of those (I think there are around 12 you can get in total by then?) before your final evolution you'll get it. I won't spoil what it is, but I will say it's awesome.

@poopdeck:
I would figure that the author wanted the game's audience to be any person rather than the avid shmup fan, hence 5 available choices in difficulty. It's nice to have the easier options when trying to unlock different evolutions.

@Mehuyael:
Thanks a lot, I was wondering how I would get it otherwise. Thanks also for keeping it a surprise, the unlock was awesome indeed ;)

I finally figured out why I wasn't getting the "70 chain" bomb upgrade also. In all my attempts to get it, I kept on getting another bomb upgrade before it besides Circle. I guess you can only evolve if you start with the basic Normal, Circle, or Laser.

I REALLY like how unlocks are done, especially seeing how most of the required conditions coincide with the evolution. Though I can't really see how the 4th and 5th Main unlock along with the 2nd Bomb (I guess because it's easier spammable?) unlock matches.

Eeep! It's finally out! I've been waiting for the full version of this for a while.
