Here's something that I found while randomly searching for indie games on the 'net - a gameplay demonstration of Kairos' new vertical shooter, Graze. Doesn't really feel like two years has passed since we last played Varia, the other shmup that he made using the Game Maker engine.

And while we're on the topic of shmups, I should also point out that Linley Henzell (creator of Dungeon Crawl) is working on an arena shooter called Transdimensional Hellspider. The download link for the demo is only accessible to forum members though.

Varia was a pretty cool game so I'll be sure to try this out later.

Thanks Tim for the mention.

However, I don't think I can distribute the game due to Digipen's ownership of the IP rights, as this was a final semester project.
It's possible it may get put up on DP's site, although I don't know the qualifications for that atm.

Just alter the name slightly and release it as a 'different' game,. developed outside of the course.
Schools should not claim IP rights over students works,. that is just lame, you created it. guess is true, those who can not DO,. teach.
Anyhow,. it looks very nice!

It's not really a problem with DP claiming IP rights on these games, because I'm making them with their software anyway, and I'm also making the game for educational purposes.

Actually it's no different at any other school, if you use their materials. Also, there's a good reason for them to hold the IP since there have been major disputes between students on team games before and what belongs to who.

I'd also have to say the faculty here definitely know what they're talking about, so it's definitely not just some college.

Although the workload is quite rough!

Thanks, Tim - I'll let you know when the final version is ready. I might even make Christmas.

I like Graze's style. It reminds me a bit of Radio Zonde. A comprehensible Radio Zonde.
