Update: Skipmore's Synopsis Quest Completed
A new version for Skipmore's Synopsis Quest was posted today, featuring a total of twenty-five side quests and puzzles to solve. The game now has a proper (if short) ending, and you can play the missions in any order you like. (earlier mention)

I'm not getting any text either, not that reading the text would help.
I've finsihed every level but the one in the exact middle and the one at the end. Where is that stupid ship supposed to go? I'm down to systematically trying out every spot on the map. This makes no sense.
And I assume the last one completes when you get the rest of them, but I don't know.

It would help a lot if anyone who couldn't get text to display to state what kind of browsers they are using. I'm thinking it could be because your operating system doesn't support the display of Japanese text.
I don't read Japanese either, but you don't need to know the language to play this game.

I'm not getting any in-game text either. Firefox 3.0.17 on Ubuntu 9.04. Frustrating because I _can_ read Japanese and enjoyed this the last time around when it was posted.
The catch is, the quest where the king is yapping away -- that one DOES have text showing. None of the others, do. What gives?

But I highly doubt this is a client-side issue. I think the OP is right. Possibly the king quest works because it uses code/properties carried over from the prior version.

I have a feeling that Synopsis Quest will be translated to English in the near future (since the full version was only released yesterday). The reason why I think this will happen is because Skipmore's Mamono Slayer already has an option to switch between English and Japanese text.

Forgot to mention that I was reading his twitter page, and no users reported any such problem like the one above. People were clearing the game etc. with no problems.
Maybe it does have something to do with non-native setups, but this is highly unusual!

My operating system does have Japanese language support but I still can't see the text. I'm sure it's just an embedding issue, probably some font that comes with Japanese computers but not on "Western" ones...

Ha, funny, I just played through Synopsis Quest the other day (the unfinished version), and now here it is completed! And it looks like it'll be translated soon (didn't even notice Mamono Slayer's option).
And yeah, the text was working just fine yesterday. I'm going to take a guess and say it's trying to find some Japanese font and failing (the I-bar will appear if you hover of the text box).

Skipmore got back to me.
The game is designed to be compatible with Japanese cell phones, so it's encoded in Shift-JIS. Native Japanese setups of course have flash set to decode Shift-JIS by default. We, on the other hand, are set up towards Utf-8.
He updated it with a new version as a compatibility test, but this doesn't work either. He was thinking of creating the text as images in order to work around this.
From what I read on Adobe's site, there is no easy way to get around this because of the way the font codebase is built when using Flash. Of course, he could use Unicode, but then this causes a problem for the cell phones, which is apparently the target platform.
So... wait for the image-as-text version I guess.
