The above trailer is in fact 'several years old' and features a game which has long since been abandoned. However, konjak has explained on his blog that he is considering releasing the unfinished Mina of the Pirates, apparently the longest game he has ever developed.

So you know what to do - go hit up his blog post and let him know that you would indeed like to see it released. It's amusing that he says of this trailer: 'It sure looks terrible these days'. Clearly his definition of 'terrible' is far from my own.

Why did you do this to me?

YOU DID THIS TO YOURSELF :D

It would be a shame not having this one roam free on the internets...

he is a one man army omfg

I'd play almost any game that uses Crescendolls in its trailer. The fact that it's a konjak game sweetens the deal!

Eternal Daughter ripoff.

Want! Play! This! Now!

You don't.

Anyway, I'm looking into it. I have part of it able to run, but I still want to open it in my editor to make you able to play in larger than a 256x224 window...

This looks very awesome konjak!

Release this thing! Looks like a top notch snes title.

konjak/Joakim Sandberg/whichever you perfer to be addressed as:

The game looks good. You are one of my favorite "indie" game makers. You capture the 2-d essence and feel of the 8-16-32-bit era in your games everytime. You are your own best and worst critic. You seem to think everything you make has to be absolutelly perfect, forgetting that many of the popular/cult memories that people have for some games have glitches and issues.

As an artist you feel like you are never done(and lots of times they teach this in art schooling somewhat that you are never done...). You seem to go from project to project, get bored, annoyed, and move onto another. After "completely" dropping the previous you seem only to later regret not finishing such one based on what you call "lazyness" almost everytime?

The reason I state this is because, I hate seeing you do this to yourself. It seems that as an artist that you think no one will like anything you do unless it is absolutely in some pristine condition; either graphically, sound wise, or programming/play control. What I have seen by you in un-finished states has always been A+ material, sometimes surpassing some of your finished work on some occasions here and there in titles you do release finished/unfinished.

You have got to stop doing this to yourself, you are seemingly trying to set yourself up for failure, or something like such, and it hurts to see you keep doing this. From what I can observe, considering I know nothing of your working/personal life, just your hobby/sidetime, which is an important part of your life when you get down to what people like to do in their spare time.

The other option is this: people are always willing to help on stuff they like to play, do, or learn. Your unfinished materials, I would say if you are willing to throw things out unfinished playable builds, when you get annoyed/bored/whatnot, as you do....why not let someone/group of people take over such projects that are willing to put work into it, and at least helping with direction of materials when they ask for help, or ask for a status on something. Produce a full unused assets pack, raw materials, source code and stuff, and offer it to whoever is willing to see a project through, and make credit due where needed, so you can take pleasure in seeing something you worked on at least make it out there? It may not be totally perfect, but people will still love it, and you will be able to at least know what works for future reference and help get past coder/programmer/artist blocks...

Release it! If you'd release games that come even remotely close to that, alot less people'd think indiegames're crap.

And yes, even though you guys might deny it, ALOT of people think that. No thanks to stuff like VVVVVVVVVVVV, and no thanks to Konjak for not releasing stuff like this.

Thanks, Kenny. While a lot of that is true, this game is still very old (by the standards of how I've improved). It was abandoned around the latter part of 2005 and its engine made three years before that.

It's more that it is so aged I've started to dislike it, and wouldn't want people to somehow associate my current abilities to what is in this game. :)

That's why you come up with a pseudonym, or multiple pseudonyms!

But you know, I don't think most people look at someone's work and assume that it is a reflection of someone having reached their highest limits. We see potential as well.

Lastly, I would just mention that some of my favorite artists in multiple types of media are ones who have never released something I consider "perfect." But always fascinating and inspiring.

Personally, I say don't release it. You let it die for a reason, let it stay dead.

Some people are claiming that this should be released based on looks alone. However, notice that konjak is claiming issues with the level design being repetitive. Furthermore, the trailer is not a run through of a stage, it's a series of snippets of gameplay. And I'm sure we're all in agreement that it's the gameplay, not the visual polish that really makes or breaks a game amirite?

Instead my vote goes towards devoting time to finishing and polishing something that you are still excited about.

I kinda see where konjak is coming from, actually. The graphics of his more recent games are much better than the graphics in that trailer. That just shows that konjak has gotten better over the years though, which isn't a shock. Humans do that kind of thing. Besides, konjak of the past still made better graphics than most current indies.

I obviously can't speak of the gameplay since I haven't played the game, but from what I saw in the trailer it looks fine.

In any case, konjak, I think people understand that people generally improve over time. A game of the past may not be as good as a game you'd make today, but that doesn't mean that it can't still be a good game, worthy of being played and enjoyed by us people who like that sort of thing. I hope you release the game, and then you can move on to greater things.

im a big fan of your work konjak. have you ever thought about getting noitu love 2 on wiiware?

i love that game and id buy it again if you ported it to the wii. if i had money to publish things, id try to help you :P

I've praised Konjak's talent enough in the past so I'll skip the rant on how amazing his pixelskills are (everyone knows this so there wouldnt be a problem that Mina isnt up to par with his current level) and just say; Please release this in any form! If for nothing else then it's really inspiring to others to see stuff like this. It promotes a "can-do" attitude (yes even though you abondoned it ;P) and serves as a reminder of what 1 guy can do with some drawing skills and a fairly basic coding language. To see works like this is a huge motivational boost.

I was really looking forward to this back then, and hoped for a long time that you'd release an abandoned version. As a MMF 2 myself I can quite see in that trailer some things that might be too low for your current standards, and the pixel art is indeed inferior to what your skill is currently. However, it'd be really cool to see a bit of this - that swamp boss seems especially nasty.

Release it, we deserve it, and it doesn't look terrible at all!
