Nyalamander is a mouse-controlled 2D scrolling shooter in the style of Salamander and the Gradius series, featuring six levels to beat and a handful of power-up items for the player to collect. Upgrades are in effect the second you pick them up, and when your ship is destroyed you can still save the options if you gather them before they disappear into space.

The level orientation switches from horizontal to vertical after each boss fight, and you have the option to continue playing from any stage you've beaten previously at the main menu screen. The autofire feature can be activated by scrolling up with the mouse wheel, and to turn it off you just need to scroll down using the same wheel.

Note that the game does not store a record of your unlocked levels between browsing sessions, and you'll have to start playing from stage one again if you close or switch browser windows. (source)

This is probably the oddest tribute to Salamander and the MSX that I've ever seen.
I like it.

I hate it.

The author is called Ijiwaru Neko Cat, not Gaha02

Horrible yet wonderful.

@Anonymous: Thanks for the correction!

Nya = meow, by the way.

How do I start the game?

Hit the option that says PC and then wait.

This is the first video game I played that used Vocaloid.

If only I could use the keyboard...

Gameplay's too weird for a shooter. Arm things?

You can use the Z key to toggle autofire as well.

And ditto the Vocaloid comment. The closest I've come to hearing Vocaloid in a game was Lethal Crisis (same people who did Lethal Application) wherein they used Luka for their opening movie.

the graphics and sound are different, but so far the gameplay, enemy behavior, and level design are quite close to the original 1987 arcade game Salamander (aka Life Force). "too weird for a shooter", heh. mouse control is clumsy, I wish there was a keyboard option.

I really like it and I'm normally not to fond of shooter type games, I'm just bad at them. I'm not much better at this one, but something about it, I just found myself enjoying it. I honestly prefer the mouse over the keyboard.

The concept is far from innovative, but the execution is pretty good, with some nice stage events and everything else you'd come to expect from a gradius type of game. 7/10, 8/10 for fans of the genre.
