3. Twilight Heroes

Twilight Heroes is a turn-based role playing game which is similar to the Kingdom of Loathing in more than a few areas. By day you're an underpaid and unappreciated worker with a dull job, but as the sun goes down you don a mask and a cape and patrol the streets in an attempt to clean up the crime-riddled and corrupt city you live in.

Along the way your hero or heroine will develop super powers, such as amazing strength, mastery of the elements, or the ability to manipulate things with your mind. As you grow in power you acquire more skills and items, and face an increasingly challenging series of goals, quests, and super-villains. You can choose from powerful talismans to channel your abilities through, and build a secret base to use as your hideout and refuge when you're not fighting crime. Just don't stay up too late, or you might have to face consequences the next day at work.

Twilight Heroes is free to play and has no advertising. (requires registration)

About The IGF

Think Services (producer of Game Developer magazine, Gamasutra.com, and the Game Developers Conference) established the Independent Games Festival in 1998 to encourage innovation in game development and to recognize the best independent game developers.

The competition, now in its 10th year, awarded a total of nearly $50,000 in prizes to deserving indie creators in Main Competition and Student Competition categories at the IGF Awards Ceremony, held in February 2008 at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA, as one of the highlights of the Game Developers Conference.

The Independent Games Festival will return in March 2009 at GDC in San Francisco - look for more information soon. [More information...]
