September 16, 2012 8:00 AM | Danny Cowan

Developed by Office DisOrders creator Ted Hung, Life in the Dorms challenges players to settle into dorm life while solving puzzles, keeping up with social networking, and avoiding a literal axe-wielding psychopath of a roommate. Bears and murder also figure into the equation, somehow.

Life in the Dorms is priced at 80 Microsoft points ($1).

XBLIG Pick: Snops Attack! Zombie Defense (Snops Games)

September 14, 2012 11:00 PM | Danny Cowan

Though its title first brings to mind tower defense, Snops Games' recently released Xbox Live Indie Game Snops Attack! Zombie Defense is actually a vertically scrolling shoot-'em-up -- and a fine-looking one, too!

Scoring is Snops Attack is chain-based, and players can rack up several-thousand hit combos throughout each level by blasting waves of undead critters. The game also boasts a unique "edge of death" mechanic, in which you're awarded a score multiplier when all of your shields are depleted.

Snops Attack! is priced at 240 Microsoft points ($3).

Smudged Cat Games has released its portal-platformer Gateways for Steam, Desura, and the Xbox Live Indie Games service, as part of the ongoing Indie Games Uprising III.

Originally released for Windows back in March, Gateways is a side-scrolling puzzler in which players use portals to traverse long distances, flip gravity, and even travel through time to solve environment-based puzzles. As the screenshot above demonstrates, the results can often be quite disorienting (and awesome)!

The PC version of Gateways is priced at $3.99 during its launch week. The XBLIG edition is available for 240 Microsoft points ($3). A DRM-free version of the game (which includes a free Steam key) can be purchased directly from Smudged Cat's website.

Toys for Bob / Activision: Senior FX Artist:
"We're owned by Activision. We've been together for 20 years, made a bunch of games, many of which are actually fun. Our office and work style are pretty damn awesome. We advocate the relocation of polar bear tribes to Antarctica. We have the best design tools around."

Mutant Mudds Deluxe Revealed for Wii U

September 13, 2012 11:00 PM | Danny Cowan

120913_mmdeluxe.jpg

Hot on the heels of a recent PC release for its retro-styled platformer Mutant Mudds, developer Renegade Kid revealed that its game is also coming to Nintendo's Wii U console, which is set to launch in North America on November 18th.

The only elaboration Renegade Kid's Jools Watsham provided was the screenshot you see above. No additional details have been revealed, and a release date has not been announced. Still, a Mutant Mudds port (hopefully with bonus PC content intact) and Two Tribes' Toki Tori 2 will ensure that the console has a healthy lineup of downloadable indie titles following its launch.
