3. Debrysis

Debrysis is a Geometry Wars-style arena shooter which uses a combination of both keyboard and mouse for controls. The handy radar indicates the position of all enemies and power-ups on field which are out of your view, shown as red and blue arrows on screen. Your best score and weapon of choice can be submitted online after the end of each game.

"It all happened accidentally. Worms, 'glassy' arena, main character... One day, while leaving the subway, I decided to make a game with lots of explosions and gore. The only thing I wanted it to be like was Crimsonland. I adore this game.

I just sat down and made Debrysis. My friend wrote the music. It was for fun, and we didn't expect the game to go any further than our friends' PCs. We were really surprised.

The game is still in development, and the alpha version is coming soon. There will be multiplayer, and one or two unannounced features. Expect to see a couple of new games from us next year as well." - Grouzdev Dmitry

The competition, now in its 13th year, awarded a total of nearly $50,000 in prizes to deserving indie creators in Main Competition and Student Competition categories at the IGF Awards Ceremony, held in March 2010 at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA, as one of the highlights of the Game Developers Conference.

The Independent Games Festival will return in March 2011 at GDC in San Francisco - look for more information soon. [More information...]
